American Beach Grass
Need Beach Grass?
We have American Beach Grass! Each spring and fall, we harvest approximately 40 bundles (about 20,000 plugs) from our very own nursery, located just outside of the town of Charlevoix, with the help of our student volunteers from Boyne City Middle School.
Thank You Boyne City 8th graders for a great 2025 Spring Harvest! Did you miss the Spring harvest, but would like to put an order in for this Fall? Don't worry, we got you! We will begin taking pre-orders for Fall 2025 in mid-June. Please call 231-582-6193 with any questions.
Conservation in Action, An Exciting New Partnership:
This year, twenty bundles of our Spring 2025 harvest was purchased by the Seney National Wildlife Refuge. The SNWR is an expansive migratory bird refuge located in the east-central portion of the Upper Peninsula. In 1998, the Whitefish Point Unit was added to the SNWR, which now comprises of over 1,000 feet of Lake Superior Shoreline along Whitefish Point. Staff from the SNWR reached out to the CCD in hopes of acquiring American Beachgrass to be used in an effort to conserve and restore a portion of the parking area at the Whitefish Point Shipwreck Museum to natural habitat. The SNWR utilized funds through the Great American Outdoor Act to purchase 20 bundles or 10,000 plugs of beachgrass to use in this project that will be planted this Spring. If you travel up to the Shipwreck Museum this summer, keep a look out for some CCD Beachgrass!

How To Order Beach Grass
Orders are taken throughout the year for our spring and fall harvests, which occur in May and October. We begin taking orders for spring harvest in November, and in June for the fall harvest. Once we reach our maximum number of bundles for one season, we are closed for that season. To place an order, please call 231-582-6193
Our Student
Volunteers
Student volunteers from area schools join us during harvest days to learn about natural resource management and their local watershed through shoreline preservation and land stewardship. Boyne City Middle School 8th grade students are our primary volunteers, but other schools that have participated over the years include Charlevoix Elementary and science students from North Central Michigan College.
